Whether it is a matter of furniture, facades or interior fittings, FunderMax is always to be found at the interface between ideas and materials.


FunderMax is owned by Constantia Industries AG and is a 100% privately owned. It is a globally active Austrian company currently employing about 3920 staff with annual sales of more than one Billion USD.

FunderMax was formed in 2005 with the merger of Funder and Isomax to create the name.  While their headquarters is located in St. Veit / Glan, Austria, the manufacturing plant is located outside of Vienna in Wr. Neudorf.  This particular facility has approoximately 400 employees including the research and development team.  In 2015 they incorporated to FunderMax North America and have offices in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Product type

FunderMax Max Exterior is a high-quality construction product which is used especially for long-lasting balcony and façade claddings. Max Exterior panels are duromer high pressure laminates (HPL) in accordance with EN 438-6 Type EDF with extremely effective weather protection. This weather protection consists of double hardened acrylic PUR resins. They are produced in lamination presses under great pressure and at high temperatures.

Natural materials

Max Exterior panels are primarily made of wood that is processed into “kraft paper.” The wood accumulates as a byproduct during logging or in sawmills. We procure these raw materials from suppliers who are certified according to the FSC or PEFC standards. These standards confirm that the logging occurs in accordance with internationally valid rules for sustainable forestry. The kraft paper is impregnated with resin on impregnating lines, dried, and pressed at high pressure into durable, moisture-resistant panels. The exhaust air from the drying process is treated by regenerative thermal oxidation, in which heat produced thereby is redirected back into the process.

Long-lasting panels

Max Exterior can easily be cut and machined. The variety of sizes guarantees economical construction by optimizing offcuts. Max Exterior are impact resistant and break-proof and are even forgiving to rough handling at the construction site. Their high rigidity makes using relatively thin panels possible. Handling of the product at the construction site is thereby simplified.

Comprehensive tests certify that Max Exterior panels have a lifespan of over 50 years. The patented manufacturing process guarantees the surface’s extreme weather resistance, whereby even intensive plain colors and intense wood decors remain brilliant over the long run. Max Exterior does not require maintenance in order to secure their long lifespan. The panels’ surface does not easily become dirty. Most impurities are washed away by rain. If required, cleaning with standard cleaning agents is possible, whereby even highly effective solvents may be used for removing graffiti. Sealing the edges is not necessary, even after cutting. The robust surface is also suitable for highly stressed areas of application, such as building facade foundation areas, and does not display any dents upon impact.

Off-cuts are energetically recycled in-house. In our state-of-the-art green electricity district heating power stations, no harmful exhausts arise, such as dioxin, hydrochloric acid or organic chlorine compounds. The residual ashes are free of heavy metals.

FunderMax and LEED

       FunderMax panels are FSC Certified and consist of 65% natural fibers.

        No adhesive and sealants are used in Max Compact Panels.

L and T

L and T brackets, standard in Europe are perfect for renovation projects.  The aluminum substructure basically consists of vertical support profiles (T) which are mounted on the wall using angle brackets (L). Due to the material properties of Max Exterior panels, fixed points and sliding points need to be made to fix the panels.  The metal substructure change their dimensions with differences in temperature. The dimensions of Max Exterior, however, alter under the influence of changing relative humidity. These changes in size of substructure and cladding material can be opposite to each other. When installing, attention must be paid to the expansion joints.

Z and Hat

More common in the US, are z girts and hat channels.  The aluminum substructure consists of a horizontal z girt that makes it easy to hit the vertical supports behind, and a vertical hat channel.  The same attention to fixed and sliding points and expansion and contraction apply.

The system a similar substructure to the L and T or Z girt and hat channel with additional horizontal members for the brackets to connect to.  The panel anchor consists of a double-slotted conical plug sleeve with an integrated blind rivet. The plug is placed into the undercut drill hole of the façade panel so that it has a positive fit and then carefully anchored.

Modulo ME 05

With this modern façade fastening system it is possible to create a façade—as well as interior wall cladding— with prefabricated standard elements with invisible mechanical fasteners. The substructure may be a standard wooden or an aluminum substructure.

The Modulo system is produced in 3 standard sizes:

     Modulo 500 – 500mm x 400mm (surface coverage 488mm x 392mm)

     Modulo 1000 – 1000mm x 400mm (surface coverage 1000mm x 400mm)



The different sizes can be mixed and matched and installed to form the patterns below.

This system has a very specific hidden fastener that is available in rails and clips.  The prefabricated panels fit perfectly into the clip.

Lap Siding

Perfect for residential projects and can be installed on both wooden and metal substructures.  This straight forward system comes with prefabricated panels and clips from a single source.  Max Exterior lap siding elements are installed using mounting clips fixed to the substructure from the bottom up.
